Quick answer
In 2026 a European or British live-in career nanny in Dubai earns AED 12,000–25,000 per month tax-free, with private accommodation, annual flights home and medical insurance on top; governesses AED 16,000–30,000; rota pairs two such salaries. The family (or its company) sponsors the residence visa; Lumière does not process visas. Lumière's fee is separate from the salary and set out in writing before the search; guarantee three months plus two on each replacement; shortlist within a week. Facts checked October 2026.
What Dubai families pay for a premium nanny in 2026
These are the bands for professionally trained European, British and Russian-speaking candidates — the market Lumière serves. Locally recruited domestic helpers are a different market at a fraction of these figures and are not what families searching for a British or European career nanny are budgeting for.
| Role | 2026 package | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Live-in career nanny | AED 12,000 – 25,000 / month, tax-free | Plus private accommodation, annual flights, medical insurance; UK-trained (Norland, NNEB, CACHE) in the upper half |
| Live-out nanny | Within the same band, plus allowance | No accommodation provided; housing allowance common |
| Governess / private teacher | AED 16,000 – 30,000 / month | QTS/PGCE, British, IB or American curricula; boarding-school preparation at the top |
| Rota nanny (per nanny) | AED 12,000 – 25,000 / month each | Two nannies alternating; both on packages |
| Maternity nurse / newborn specialist | Quoted per package | Flown-in specialists track home-market day rates (London reference £250–450/day); 6–12-week engagements |
Lumière-published bands from 2026 briefs, excluding visa costs, flights and housing.
Visa, accommodation and the other costs
A full-time nanny in the UAE must hold a residence visa sponsored by her employer — the family or its company —; candidates on visit visas cannot lawfully work. The sponsor pays the visa, medical fitness test and Emirates ID; the package normally adds a private room or allowance, annual return flights and medical insurance; end-of-service gratuity accrues under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022 on Domestic Workers. Lumière introduces and vets; it does not process visas, and plans the start date around the visa timeline.
Typically in the package
- Private accommodation or housing allowance
- Annual return flights home
- Medical insurance
- A six-day week with a written rest day; overtime terms agreed
- Summer travel to Europe with the family, written into the contract
Agency fee, separate from the salary
Lumière's fee is separate from the salary and set out in writing before the search, and the Lumière Guarantee — three months, then two more on each replacement, up to three times.
Visa and government fees are paid by the family as sponsor.
How long it takes, and how Dubai compares
Allow six to ten weeks from brief to start when a new visa is needed; candidates already resident with transferable status can start sooner. Tax-free Dubai packages for European career nannies sit above London (£45,000–55,000+ gross a year, taxed) once accommodation and flights are counted, and in the same range as Monaco (€3,500–4,500+ net a month plus room and board).
| Market | Live-in, 2026 | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai / Abu Dhabi | AED 12,000 – 25,000 / month tax-free + package | Lumière-published |
| Monaco | €3,500 – 4,500+ net / month | Lumière-published |
| London | £45,000 – 55,000+ gross / year | Lumière-published |
| Geneva | CHF 6,000 – 7,000+ gross / month | Indicative market range |

How Lumière nannies are vetted for Dubai families
Lumière Placements is based on the French Riviera. For families in Dubai and Abu Dhabi we introduce vetted European, British and Russian-speaking career nannies and governesses; UAE residence visas and sponsorship are arranged by the family as sponsor. We do not process visas, attestations or Emirates ID.
Residence visa & sponsorship
Arranged by the family (or its company). Lumière does not process visas, attestations or Emirates ID, but confirms each candidate's documents and plans the start date around the visa timeline.
Written contract
Every introduction is made on clear written terms: salary, accommodation, flights, medical insurance, hours, rest days and end-of-service, agreed before the start date.
UAE domestic-worker rules
Hours, weekly rest and end-of-service gratuity follow UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022 on Domestic Workers; the family, as employer, is responsible for compliance and we flag the key points in the brief.
DBS and criminal-record checks
Enhanced DBS for UK-trained candidates, or the home-country equivalent, plus references verified in person by Hanna.
Qualifications verified
Norland, NNEB, CACHE, QTS/PGCE or equivalent certificates sighted, never taken on trust.
Gulf-ready
Candidates with prior Gulf experience, long summers in Europe and 6-day-week schedules are flagged on the shortlist.
Declared employment. Every placement is made on a written, declared contract with the family as employer. Lumière does not place undeclared nannies.
The Lumière difference
Founded by a professional nanny, not a recruiter
"I founded Lumière because the families I worked for kept asking the same question: where do we find another nanny like you? I still take private placements. Every nanny I place is one I would work alongside."
Hanna founded Lumière Placements after years inside private households as a career nanny. Lumière is the only French Riviera-based boutique placement agency, placing across Monaco, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Nice, and worldwide, founded and led by a professional nanny.
