Quick answer
Lumière places seasonal and long-term nannies with Gstaad chalet families — live-in for the December–April season, rota pairs for 24-hour cover, and summer placements. Candidates are EU/EFTA or already permit-holding, employed by the family on a declared Swiss contract. Indicative live-in salaries in Switzerland run CHF 6,000–7,000+ gross per month (2026); seasonal engagements are quoted per season. Shortlist within a week; 3-month guarantee. Lumière Placements — founded 2025, based in Nice, specialising in long-term nannies, newborn care specialists and private teachers: guarantee three months, then two on each replacement; shortlist within a week; 5.0 on Google. Facts checked October 2026.
A season, not a holiday
Gstaad families do not need a babysitter for a fortnight; they need someone who can run a chalet nursery from the first snow to the last, settle children into the Saanen winter rhythm, and travel back with them to London, Monaco or Geneva in April. Lumière places that person: a career nanny who has done a full Alpine season before, is comfortable on skis or on the bus to ski school, and understands that a chalet with guests is a working household from breakfast to bedtime.
What we place
- Full-season live-in nannies, mid-December to mid-April, with a written seasonal contract
- Rota pairs — two nannies alternating weeks — for households with guests, late dinners and early ski lessons
- Summer placements for July and August, when the Saanenland fills again
- Year-round nannies for families based in Gstaad or splitting the year with the Riviera
- Governesses and private teachers for children following their school programme from the chalet
Where we place
- Gstaad, Oberbort and the chalets above the Promenade
- Saanen and the valley towards the John F. Kennedy International School
- Schönried and Saanenmöser
- Rougemont and Château-d'Œx on the Vaud side, where French is the household language
- Families whose children attend Le Rosey's winter campus in Gstaad from January to March
What a Gstaad nanny placement involves
Switzerland takes household employment seriously, and a seasonal contract is still a Swiss contract. The family employs the nanny, registers her for AVS/AHV and accident insurance, and pays at or above the Swiss minimum for domestic work; Vaud-side chalets in Rougemont fall under Vaud's cantonal rules. We confirm every candidate's right to work before you meet her: EU and EFTA citizens can take a seasonal role on a simple online notification for up to 90 days and an L permit beyond that; non-EU candidates are introduced only where a permit is realistic, which is rare.
Timing
- Season searches open in September; the best candidates are placed by late October
- Allow four to six weeks for a live-in search, longer for a rota pair
- Summer searches open in April
- Short-notice cover is possible from our Riviera and Geneva pool, but the choice narrows
What families pay
- Indicative live-in salaries in Switzerland: CHF 6,000–7,000+ gross per month (2026 market range)
- Seasonal engagements quoted per season, with accommodation, board and a lift pass in the package
- Rota pairs: each nanny is a separate placement at the same rate
- Lumière's fee is separate from the salary and stated in writing before the search begins — see our terms
How We Match Your Family
Every search starts with a conversation with the Lumière team, led by Hanna, a career nanny, and ends with a hand-picked shortlist — never a database. Four steps, the same for every family.
Comprehensive Screening
References verified in person, criminal-record and DBS checks where applicable, credentials sighted, and experience with staffed, international households assessed.
Language Assessment
Candidates are interviewed in the languages your household uses; qualifications, first-aid certificates and right to work are verified before any introduction.
Family Consultation
A detailed conversation about your household, routines, schools, travel and the person you want in your children's lives.
Cultural Matching
Temperament, values and professional maturity matched to your family; two or three candidates presented, each one Hanna and the team would work alongside.

How Lumière nannies are vetted for Gstaad families
Lumière is based on the French Riviera and is not a Swiss-licensed placement agency. For Swiss families we introduce vetted candidates; the family is the employer and handles the Swiss employment contract, AVS/AHV registration and any permit application, usually with a Swiss household-payroll specialist. We confirm each candidate's eligibility before any introduction.
Right to work in Switzerland
EU/EFTA citizenship or an existing Swiss permit confirmed before any introduction. Non-EU/EFTA candidates are introduced only where a permit is realistic; the application is made by the family through the canton.
Declared Swiss employment
The family registers the nanny for AVS/AHV and accident insurance and signs a Swiss employment contract; we explain each step.
Minimum wages and hours
Swiss household staff are covered by the federal standard employment contract for domestic work and, in Geneva and Vaud, by cantonal rules. Seasonal and rota schedules are written to respect them.
Criminal-record extract and references
Home-country criminal-record extract, references verified in person by the Lumière team, paediatric first aid and, where relevant, mountain and water-safety experience.
Multilingual interview
French, English and German candidates interviewed in the language the family will use; Russian, Italian and Spanish on request.
Season-ready
Candidates with prior chalet, ski-season or Riviera-summer experience are flagged on the shortlist.
Declared employment. Every placement is made on a written, declared contract with the family as employer. Lumière does not place undeclared nannies.
The Lumière difference
Founded by a professional nanny, not a recruiter
"I founded Lumière because the families I worked for kept asking the same question: where do we find another nanny like you? I still take private placements. Every nanny I place is one I would work alongside."
Hanna founded Lumière Placements after years inside private households as a career nanny. Lumière is the only French Riviera-based boutique placement agency, placing across Monaco, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Nice, and worldwide, founded and led by a professional nanny.
