Quick answer

In 2026 a live-in nanny in Geneva earns an indicative CHF 6,000–7,000+ gross per month, employed by the family on a declared Swiss contract with AVS/AHV and accident insurance on top; Geneva's cantonal minimum wage (CHF 24.59 per hour from 1 January 2026, on a 45-hour household week) applies fully to domestic staff. Maternity nurses are quoted per 24 hours; rota pairs are two salaries. Non-EU/EFTA candidates rarely obtain permits; EU/EFTA citizens start on a simple notification. Lumière's fee is separate from the salary and set out in writing before the search; guarantee three months plus two on each replacement; shortlist within a week. Facts checked October 2026.

What Geneva families pay in 2026

Switzerland is the most regulated of our markets and the best paid. The figures below are indicative 2026 market ranges for the Geneva and Vaud area; the cantonal minimum wage is the legal floor, and senior multilingual candidates sit well above it.

Rota nanny (per nanny)CHF 80,000 – 130,000 / yearIndicative market range; two nannies alternating weeks

Indicative 2026 market ranges; the cantonal minimum wage is set by the Canton of Geneva and adjusted annually.

Contributions, insurance, permits

The family is the employer. On top of gross salary come the employer's share of AVS/AHV, unemployment and accident insurance (roughly 12–15% as an indicative figure), a written Swiss employment contract, and — in Geneva — the cantonal standard contract for domestic workers, which sets hours, rest and the 45-hour week. Board and lodging for a live-in nanny are valued in the contract. Permits: EU/EFTA citizens can start on an online notification for up to 90 days and an L or B permit beyond; non-EU/EFTA candidates are rarely granted permits for household roles, so we introduce them only where a permit is realistic. A Swiss household-payroll specialist can handle the registration and payslips.

Budget on top of salary

  • Employer AVS/AHV, unemployment and accident insurance (indicative 12–15%)
  • Board and lodging valued in the contract for live-in roles
  • Paid holiday (four weeks minimum in Switzerland)
  • Travel days to the Alps or the Riviera, paid as working time

Agency fee, separate from the salary

Lumière's fee is separate from the salary and set out in writing before the search, and the Lumière Guarantee — three months, then two more on each replacement, up to three times.

Lumière is based on the French Riviera and is not a Swiss-licensed agency: we introduce vetted candidates; your family employs and registers the nanny.

Geneva versus Monaco, London and Dubai

Geneva pays the highest gross salaries of our markets, offset by Swiss social contributions and the cost of living. A Monaco live-in nanny earns €3,500–4,500+ net a month with no personal income tax; London £45,000–55,000+ gross a year; Dubai AED 12,000–25,000 a month tax-free plus a package.

Vetting & compliance

How Lumière nannies are vetted for Geneva families

Lumière is based on the French Riviera and is not a Swiss-licensed placement agency. For Swiss families we introduce vetted candidates; the family is the employer and handles the Swiss employment contract, AVS/AHV registration and any permit application, usually with a Swiss household-payroll specialist. We confirm each candidate's eligibility before any introduction.

Right to work in Switzerland

EU/EFTA citizenship or an existing Swiss permit confirmed before any introduction. Non-EU/EFTA candidates are introduced only where a permit is realistic; the application is made by the family through the canton.

Declared Swiss employment

The family registers the nanny for AVS/AHV and accident insurance and signs a Swiss employment contract; we explain each step.

Minimum wages and hours

Swiss household staff are covered by the federal standard employment contract for domestic work and, in Geneva and Vaud, by cantonal rules. Seasonal and rota schedules are written to respect them.

Criminal-record extract and references

Home-country criminal-record extract, references verified in person by Hanna, paediatric first aid and, where relevant, mountain and water-safety experience.

Multilingual interview

French, English and German candidates interviewed in the language the family will use; Russian, Italian and Spanish on request.

Season-ready

Candidates with prior chalet, ski-season or Riviera-summer experience are flagged on the shortlist.

Declared employment. Every placement is made on a written, declared contract with the family as employer. Lumière does not place undeclared nannies.

The Lumière difference

Founded by a professional nanny, not a recruiter

"I founded Lumière because the families I worked for kept asking the same question: where do we find another nanny like you? I still take private placements. Every nanny I place is one I would work alongside."

Hanna founded Lumière Placements after years inside private households as a career nanny. Lumière is the only French Riviera-based boutique placement agency, placing across Monaco, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Nice, and worldwide, founded and led by a professional nanny.
