Quick answer
In 2026 a full-time live-in nanny in Monaco earns €3,500–4,500+ net per month, with private room and board on top; live-out nannies and day engagements run €250–400+ per day; maternity nurses €5,000–6,000+ per month; governesses €4,000–7,000+ per month; and a rota pair €60,000–120,000 per nanny per year. The family employs the nanny on a CCSS-declared contract, with employer contributions on top of net pay. Lumière's placement fee is separate from the salary and set out in writing before the search; guarantee three months plus two on each replacement; shortlist within a week. Facts checked October 2026.
What Monaco families pay in 2026
Ranges below are what Lumière places at in Monaco and the figures families should budget for. Seniority, languages, qualifications and travel set the level within each range; the top of each band is for senior, multilingual professionals.
| Role | 2026 range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Live-in nanny | €3,500 – 4,500+ net / month | Private room and board provided; CCSS-declared; the most common Monaco placement |
| Live-out / daily nanny | €250 – 400+ per day | Full professional days; monthly live-out salaries run above live-in because no accommodation is provided |
| Maternity nurse / newborn specialist | €5,000 – 6,000+ per month | Day-and-night or night-only; typical engagements 6–12 weeks, booked from the second trimester |
| Governess / private teacher | €4,000 – 7,000+ per month | Qualified teachers with boarding-school preparation at the top of the range (indicative 2026) |
| Rota nanny (per nanny) | €60,000 – 120,000 per year | Two nannies alternating weeks for 24/7 cover; each is a separate placement |
| Short-term / seasonal | €250 – 400+ per day | Summer, yacht season and events; written seasonal contract |
All figures are nanny salaries, not agency fees. Lumière-published ranges reflect our own 2026 placements; governess figures are indicative.
Employer costs and what else to budget
Monaco nannies are employed by the family and declared with the Caisses Sociales de Monaco (CCSS). Employer social contributions are due on top of the net salary — your accountant or the CCSS employer service confirms the current rate for your contract — and a live-in nanny's private room and board are part of the package. Budget for paid leave, a 13th-month or year-end bonus if you choose to offer one, travel days when the nanny accompanies the family, and, for rota pairs, two salaries.
Typically included in a live-in package
- Private bedroom and bathroom, meals
- Phone and transport for work duties
- Travel with the family, paid as working time
- Paid holiday under the contract
Agency fee, separate from the salary
Lumière's fee is separate from the salary and set out in writing before the search, and the Lumière Guarantee — three months, then two more on each replacement, up to three times.
Nothing else.
Monaco versus the Riviera, London and Geneva
Monaco sits at the top of the European range: live-in nannies earn roughly €500 a month more than on the French Riviera (€3,000–4,500 net), broadly in line with London (£45,000–55,000+ gross a year) and below Geneva (CHF 6,000–7,000+ gross a month, where a cantonal minimum wage applies to household staff). The difference is explained by Monaco's cost of living, the share of multilingual, highly qualified candidates, and families' expectations of discretion and travel.
| Market | Live-in, 2026 | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Monaco | €3,500 – 4,500+ net / month | Lumière-published |
| French Riviera | €3,000 – 4,500+ net / month | Lumière-published |
| London | £45,000 – 55,000+ gross / year | Lumière-published |
| Geneva | CHF 6,000 – 7,000+ gross / month | Indicative market range |
| Dubai | AED 12,000 – 25,000 / month tax-free | Lumière-published; package adds accommodation, flights, medical |

How Lumière nannies are vetted for Monaco families
Placements on the French Riviera are made under French law: the family employs the nanny on a declared URSSAF contract under the Convention Collective des particuliers employeurs; Monaco placements are declared with the CCSS. Lumière introduces, vets and guides you through the paperwork; the nanny is employed by you.
Casier judiciaire (bulletin n°3)
Current French criminal-record extract for every candidate, plus references verified in person by Hanna.
URSSAF-declared employment
The family employs the nanny on a declared URSSAF contract (or with the CCSS in Monaco); we explain each step from the declaration to the first payslip.
Convention collective
Working hours, overtime, paid leave and notice set out correctly in the contract we help you draft.
PSC1 paediatric first aid
Current PSC1 certification or equivalent.
Multilingual interview
Arabic, English and French candidates interviewed in the language the family will use.
Season-ready
Candidates with prior Riviera summer, villa or yacht experience are flagged on the shortlist.
Declared employment. Every placement is made on a written, declared contract with the family as employer. Lumière does not place undeclared nannies.
The Lumière difference
Founded by a professional nanny, not a recruiter
"I founded Lumière because the families I worked for kept asking the same question: where do we find another nanny like you? I still take private placements. Every nanny I place is one I would work alongside."
Hanna founded Lumière Placements after years inside private households as a career nanny. Lumière is the only French Riviera-based boutique placement agency, placing across Monaco, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Nice, and worldwide, founded and led by a professional nanny.
